海洋 礁区鱼类; 深度上下限 1 - 73 m .   热带; 30°N - 32°S 礁区、近海沿岸、泻湖 主要栖息于珊瑚繁生的泻湖及海藻床之礁区。行独立生活。主要以珊瑚枝芽的尖端为食，同时亦以藻类、海绵及小型底栖无嵴椎动物等为食。
